Hello! I have a question!
When using SAI, I've noticed I don't have the "Blend" option from the Advanced settings - I can see it, but can't click it!
Is my SAI outdated? Is there a problem I didn't notice?
Please let me know!

You are likely using the wrong brush. Not all bushes can blend. :)

Possibly. Sai is typically under 70 bucks. Very affordable in comparison to most graphic programs.

right click on an empty square in the brush menu. Select watercol then set the stats as it says in the info above. ;D

I'm rather new to Sai; throughout all of my experimenting with the brushes I messed it all up and desperately needed a guide, like this, to fix it. Thanks

sounds like you need to reinstall it, make sure to clean out the registry. Did you down load it from the official site?

check cnet for a program called Ccleaner.  I can't give you step by step instructions on that. I'm sorry. :) Then make sure to down load the program from here:  That gives you a 30 day trial. Not sure if the trial has the extra brushes or not. It should at least have the basic ones.  If you've paid for your copy, you should be able to add extras which you can get here: www.deviantart.com/art/SAI-The…

There are instructions there and here on da on how to install the brushes. ;)

Could someone help me out? My blur tool is kind of acting more like a smudge than a blur. I figured that resetting the settings would fix it, but it didn't.
It's like smearing things around instead of just softening.

make sure your pressure sensitivity isn't too soft or hard, it's a toggle under the advanced settings.

Just create new brushes. These are all based on the defaults that come with Sai.

I don't seem to have some of the brushes like inkpen, watercolor 9 & 10, or oil water.
I don't seem to have the brush options like "fine flat" either.
I'm starting to think that the newer Paint tool Sai has omitted these features. :( I bought Paint tool Sai, and have the license for it. I tried updating it too (though mine was the newest version anyways), but that still didn't work. So why don't I have the features? Please help!! :(

Nope. They are just some extra brushes. Far as I know sai hasn't been updated any time recently.  I know I down loaded a few extras but I've had my copy for so long I know long remember which ones weren't the absolute basic. You can get extras here: www.deviantart.com/art/SAI-The…

I checked (and saw some pretty awesome stuff btw) but I still can't see how you get the Flat Fine option. It should show under the density option for brushes in the drop down with "simple circle" etc. ;A;

That's nice, but could you tell the setting for the smooth pressure and keep opacity for water 9, water 10 and ol water and blur?
Reply
:iconlady-cybercat:
lady-cybercat Featured By Owner Sep 19, 2013  Professional Traditional Artist
As far as I can tell, Water 9 and 10  and Ol Water are not true  'Water' brushes so there is no smoothing pressure option for those brushes. At least there isn't for the ones I have. Those are non standard brushes, so I can't easily find the beginning stats. They just have very high blending and dilution settings.
I fear I might have  fiddled with my blur settings  so I'm not certain these are the original stats.
blending 100, dilution 100, persistence 80. Quality 2
Keeo Opacity unchecked.
Smoothing Pressure 100
edge hard 0
min den 0
max press 100
hard soft 100
press den size blend all checked.

Thanks!

The base default ones you can. But the 'extra' ones you can't. You may have to download them again and instal them. It isn't hard fortunately. Here's the link to a bit list of brushes. I'd recommend only installing the ones you need. www.deviantart.com/art/SAI-The…
